Vashti, Naturopath
What we put in our mouths directly has an effect on our cells. Really it does! Our food provides fuel and raw material to make new cells; around 10 million new cells are created every second we are alive!
Certain food compounds initiate gene upregulation or downregulations to improve immune cell activity, repair, detoxify, and create energy. This creates healthy functioning cells which means a healthy body and good energy. A healthy person!
Some foods have a negative effect on cell function and create inflammation, congestion, toxicity, low energy production poor waste removal - this is a condition we don't want our cells to be in! This is pain, inflammation, fatigue, brain fog, low motivation, sinus congestion, allergies, digestive problems, constipation, diarrhea, chronic infections of all kinds, type 2 diabetes, fatty liver, overweight and difficult-to-lose weight, headaches, poor sleep, high or low blood pressure, asthma, neuralgias, skin problems and many more symptoms too numerous to mention.
A truly holistic approach to feeling better must then include as many foods as possible that result in healthy cell function. This just makes sense I think. At the same time reducing foods that result in the opposite effect. Makes sense?
Most people also benefit greatly from the addition of some herbs and other plant compounds specifically to help with different individual issues a person may have.
